Deliverables: Featured image templates, graphic guidelines

About Pressable

Pressable is a managed WordPress hosting provider that delivers high-performance, scalable infrastructure and support for businesses, agencies, and developers building on WordPress. Founded in 2010 and now part of Automattic, Pressable offers a fully-managed hosting environment that handles security, updates, performance optimization, and site management.

The Project

Pressable didn’t have consistent branding guidelines for featured images. Each content company they worked with had their own style and approach. We used featured images from recent articles as inspiration and drew colors, illustration styles, and design elements from those — as well as from their own brand identity guide — to create a set of brand guidelines for Pressable blog imagery.

The guide included brand colors, a template for featured image design with exact placement of the Pressable brand mark, examples of illustration style do’s and don’ts, and exceptions to branded color usage and examples. We then made all new vector design files for featured images available so that any designer could easily pull individual assets from previous featured images to use when creating new ones.

Creating this internal document and collection of source files helped speed up the image design process and keep outcomes consistent across all designers on the team. It also ensured that the client received predictable, on-brand imagery that would be instantly recognizable as specific to their company — not only on their own website, but across social media, email, and other communication platforms.

Key deliverables

  • Templates for featured images they can use for a variety of topics
  • An internal image guide that they can apply across digital materials
  • Vector design files so their team can use the assets however they’d like
