Customizing Your Business with Tailored Illustrations – Guest Post by Deanna Kei

Is your business the best in your niche? You may offer the greatest service for the highest value but if you don’t stand out, then you’ve already lost.
There’s such an abundance of great businesses out there that you have to take great lengths to make yours more memorable than the rest. Consumers are bombarded with a constant assortment of imagery! You really want to make the best of every single visual that you show. Reviews and descriptions are important, of course, but an image can evoke feelings or thoughts in a split second and is more easily committed to memory.
As a Fashion Illustrator, I’m often asked to create custom sketches for businesses, brands, and bloggers. It’s always fun hearing the different ideas they have and what they intend to use them for.
Some clients like their portrait to be incorporated into their logo. Others like to use the sketches on business cards, or ‘About Me’ pages, or maybe even in posts. Many clients choose to exhibit their sketch on the walls of their offices or showrooms as fun, on-brand décor. That always makes me happy to hear!

In other instances, an illustration can be used to showcase a product. Here, the book ‘The International Fashionista Lookbook Diary’ has been placed right into the sketch.
Having a fashion sketch displayed on your brand’s page, social media, or even business cards adds a touch of personality. Sketches are very customizable and allow you to have more control over the image you’re presenting. A photo can show what you already have, but a sketch can show what you’re dreaming up. It also adds a style to your message that sometimes a picture just can’t express. Choosing the precise colors allows you to set the mood and tone with consistency to your brand. Illustrations offer endless options that wouldn’t be possible with an actual photo. For example, if you feel the Grand Canyon is the best backdrop for the image you’re trying to convey, you can be sketched there without having to make the trek.
Most recently I completed a small set of sketches for Caitlin Pickett of CaitlinPickett.com. Caitlin is a yoga instructor who offers virtual yoga classes on her website. She had selected 3 specific yoga poses to be sketched in. We worked together to confirm the accuracy of the sketched poses (because I’m helpless with Yoga).

Her other request was that we dressed the sketches in her brand’s color. The final result was three brand conscious Fashion Illustrations of Caitlin that are uniquely hers.

Earlier this year, I worked on an exciting project for the ladies of La Piccola Boutique, an Italian fashion boutique located in Miami, FL. Their request was to be drawn in front of their future storefront. They sent me reference pictures of shop styles, color direction, and lots of feedback as I sent them drafts. The completed sketch has the two women dressed in their own outfits, standing on either side of the storefront drawn up in their colors.

They ordered a framed print of their illustration to display around the storefront and on their product table at a recent trade show. Fashion Illustrations go especially well with Fashion Brands, but can add to any presentation.
